The Han River (漢江; pinyin: Han Jiang) in China, was often referred to as Hanshui (漢水) in antiquity. It is a tributary of the Chang Jiang (Yangtze River).
The two rivers merge in modern day Wuhan, a city of several million. The merging rivers divide the city of Wuhan into three areas, that of Wuchang, Hankou, and Hanyang.
