Handmaiden is a female character from the video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. She is an Echani fighter and joins as one of the playable characters after you leave the Telos Jedi Academy, but only if the main character is male. She and her sisters attend the Jedi master Atris which is why they are all called "handmaidens."
She looks different from the other handmaidens because she has a different mother. Her mother was a Jedi Knight who fought in the Mandalorian Wars. The Handmaiden follows the Exile (the player character) because she sees her father in the Exile and wants to understand her father's decisions better.
Once the Exile spars with her three times she lets him train her to be a Jedi like her mother, thus betraying Atris and her half-sisters.
