Hank Hanegraaff - Definition and Overview

Henrik "Hank" Hanegraaff is an American author, radio talk-show host and proponent of evangelical Christianity.

He was born in the Netherlands and raised in the USA since childhood. As of the early 2000s, he is the president of the Christian Research Institute (CRI) (http://www.equip.org/), which is based in Rancho Santa Margarita, California, and host of the "Bible Answer Man" radio program, on which he discusses Christian apologetics and Biblical hermeneutics.

Hanegraaff is notable for his belief that Biblical inerrancy can be proven on a rational basis. Hanegraaff has also been an outspoken opponent of what he describes as pseudo-Christian cults, such as the Word of Faith or word faith movement. His books include Christianity in Crisis, Counterfeit Revival, The Covering, and The Last Disciple.

Both the Christian Research Institute and the "Bible Answer Man" program were begun in 1960 by Hanegraaff's predecessor and CRI founder Walter R. Martin. Martin was the original author of Kingdom of the Cults, a comprehensive resource used by those who follow Christ in dealing with persons regarded as being in cults. Hanegraaff took over as president of CRI upon Martin's death in 1989.

Hanegraaff and his wife and children live in the gated Coto de Caza community of southern Orange County, California.
