Harken Energy - Definition

Harken Energy Corporation is an American oil and gas company, having its headquarters in Southlake, Texas. It is publicly traded, with its shares listed on the American Stock Exchange.

Harken has attracted attention because of the role played in its affairs in the 1980s by George W. Bush, later the President of the United States. Bush, while a corporate officer, sold stock in Harken soon before the company announced substantial losses, a transaction that resulted in an SEC investigation of possible insider trading; see George W. Bush#Business and early political career. A Harken transaction with the endowment fund of Harvard University has also been questioned; see Harken Energy Scandal.
