Harleysville is a census-designated place located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 8,795. It belongs to the Lower Salford Township.
Geography
Harleysville is located at 40°16'46" North, 75°23'12" West (40.279549, -75.386745)1.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 10.8 km² (4.2 mi²). 10.8 km² (4.2 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 8,795 people, 3,129 households, and 2,381 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 814.3/km² (2,111.6/mi²). There are 3,196 housing units at an average density of 295.9/km² (767.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 93.89% White, 2.62% African American, 0.06% Native American, 2.24% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.34% from other races, and 0.78% from two or more races. 1.81% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,129 households out of which 41.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.6% are married couples living together, 7.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.9% are non-families. 19.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.76 and the average family size is 3.21.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 28.7% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 34.7% from 25 to 44, 19.6% from 45 to 64, and 10.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 93.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.9 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP is $66,897, and the median income for a family is $75,105. Males have a median income of $49,961 versus $33,185 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $26,572. 3.3% of the population and 1.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 3.7% of those under the age of 18 and 8.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Travellers in Harleysville will find that this small town does not support a copious amount of entertainment. Most of the closest movie theaters are more than 20 minutes away by car, located in Quakertown and Montgomeryville. The nearby town of Souderton (a 10 minute drive away) contains The Broad Street Theater, a one screen movie Theater that sells cheap tickets, and the Montgomery Theather, a live stage theater with shows every Friday.
Recreation and Sports
A variety of community sports organizations exist in Harleysville, including leagues for Basketball, Baseball, Ultimate Frisbee (The Plague), etc. Contact a local community center or school for more information on these clubs. Harleysville's Main Street (Also called Summneytown Pike and officially designated US 63) supports a variety of stores and restaurants.
The largest grocery store in Harleysville is the a recently opened Hennings Supermarket, which contains a buffet table and a coffee shop. Sharing a plaza with Hennings are a pizza shop, a Chinese restaurant, and hair cuttery.
Also of note on Main Street is an Ace Hardware Center, the Harleysville Bank, and a newly built Quiznos.
Near the largest intersection in Harleysville, the crossing between Summneytown Pike (US 63) and Harleysville Pike (US 113) is a Wal-Mart. A Clemens Supermarket, a Blockbuster, and mattress store also occupy the same plaza.
