Harrachov - Definition and Overview

Harrachov is a town situated in the northern Czech Republic. It is the most important Czech centre of mountain hiking and skiing, several winter sport events take place in Harrachov regularly. Harrachov is situated in the Krkonose mountain range (in Polish: Karkonosze), which belong to the Sudeten Mountains, a region of increasing importance for alpine tourism in Central Europe.

Harrachov was founded as a village Doerfel (ethnic-German) in the 17th century. In 1714, it was renamed Harrachov after owner of the area, count Harrach.
