Harry Callahan (1912-1999) Detroit-born American photographer. He started to photograph in 1938, autodidactic, and was appointed to teach photography at the Institute of Design in Chicago by László Moholy-Nagy in 1946. He retired in 1977, at which time he was teaching at the Rhode Island School of Design.
He photographed his wife, Eleanor, and daughter, Barbara, and the streets, scenes and buildings of ities he lived in, showing a strong sense of line, form, light and darkness. He also made multiple exposures.
