The film of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was released on November 3, 2002. The screenplay was written by Steve Kloves, adapted from the novel by J. K. Rowling. The film was directed by Chris Columbus and was made at Leavesden Film Studios. On 14 January 2003, it won the award for "Best Live Action Family Film" in the Phoenix Film Critics Awards.

- The scuffle between Lucius Malfoy and Arthur Weasley is left out
- Nearly Headless Nick's deathday party and Lockhart's valentine celebration are left out
- Instead of simply trying to attack Harry for losing him Dobby, Lucius Malfoy tries to use the killing curse Avada Kedavra before Dobby stuns him
- Virtually all of the foreshadowing hints that Ginny is acting strange are left out
