Head Start - Definition and Overview

Head Start is a program of the US government's Department of Health and Human Services which focuses on assisting low-income children, through five years of age; so that they are prepared for school.

Head Start was originally created by the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, and later moved to the Department of Health and Human Services by the Nixon Administration.
