Helen Fielding (born February 19 1958 in Morley, West Yorkshire) is the British author of Bridget Jones's Diary and its sequel Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, which had their origins in a column in The Independent and The Daily Telegraph from 1997-98.

She graduated from St. Anne's College, University of Oxford with an English degree and worked in television journalism for several years before writing her first novel, Cause Celeb.

In 2003, she was listed in The Observer as one of the 50 funniest acts in British comedy.

In February, 2004, she gave birth to her first child, a boy named Dashiell Michael, with longtime boyfriend Kevin Curran, a writer for The Simpsons. Her most recent novel is Olivia Joules and the Overactive Imagination (2004).
