Hermosillo is the capital of the desert state of Sonora in Mexico, It is centrally located within the state and is close to several other major Mexican cities, such as Tijuana and Mexicali (both approximately 1 hour by plane) and to the U.S. cities Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona. The city is also close to the tourism-based towns of Puerto Peñasco and San Carlos, both in the same state of Sonora. The city is served by Ignacio L. Pesqueira International Airport. Ford Motor Company has a plant here, assembling the Ford Escort and Ford Focus. The city also has an American Basketball Association team, the Hermosillo Seris.
