Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi is an American animated television series following the adventures of cartoon versions of J-Pop musical duo Puffy (also known as Puffy AmiYumi). It was created by Sam Register and debuted November 19, 2004.
According to Register, the show's target audience is kids from 6 to 11, particularly girls. Each program is 30 minutes long (with commercials) and features three seven-minute episodes. Each episode includes short clips of the real Puffy performing live and hamming it up for the camera. In the cartoon, Yumi (played by Grey Delisle) is depicted as a punk rocker, grouchy and super cynical and while Ami (pronounced "AH-mee", and played by Janice Kawaye) is peppy, cute and more 'bubblegum'. Kaz -- presumably a nickname -- is their well-intentioned and money grubbing manager, whose successes are usually evenly balanced out by his foolish decisions.
Despite the main characters being Japanese and occasionally peppering their dialogue with the language, it is one of the newer Cartoon Network shows not generally considered to be inspired by anime.
The show currently airs on Cartoon Network every Friday at 7:30 and 11:30 Eastern and Pacific time in the US.
Ami is voiced by Janice Kawaye.
Yumi is voiced by Grey Delisle.
Kaz is voiced by Keone Young.
