Love-bites (or hickies) are a temporary mark or bruise on one's skin resulting from forceful kissing or sucking (not biting). They usually take a few days to fade away.
Normally love-bites are associated with the neck, however it is entirely possible to develop a love-bite on almost any part of the skin. As long as love-bites only lightly bruise, rather than breaking the skin, they are largely harmless, from a medical point of view.
