Highway 420 as part of the 400-series network
Highway 420 is a 400-Series Highway in Ontario, Canada. It is a spur route from the Queen Elizabeth Way to the tourist district of Niagara Falls.
At 3.8 km in length, Highway 420 is Ontario's shortest 400-series Highway, running from Montrose Road in Niagara Falls to Stanley Ave in the city's tourist district. Highway 420 east of Stanley Ave is Roberts St and Newman Hill leading to the Rainbow Bridge to Niagara Falls, New York, which used to be designated a part of Highway 420 until 2000, when this portion was handed over to the City of Niagara Falls.
Highway 420 was originally an extension of the QEW until 1972, when it was designated the 420 after an extensive reconstruction of the route.
Despite its 3.8 km length, there are plans to extend the 420 west to the Thorold Tunnel, to connect with the freeway portion of Highway 58 to St. Catharines to meet up with Highway 406.
The 420 has interchanges at the QEW, Dorchester Rd, and Drummond Rd currently.
