Hilary Swank - Definition and Overview

Hilary Swank (born July 30, 1974 in Lincoln, Nebraska) is an American actress. She won an Academy Award for Best Actress and a Golden Globe Award in 1999 for her portrayal of a transgendered man in the movie Boys Don't Cry. She won her second Golden Globe in 2005 for her role in Million Dollar Baby.

Her career in Hollywood was launched with the release of The Karate Kid 4 (a.k.a. The Next Karate Kid), where she played the first female protegee of the by then legendary professor Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita).

Swank also had a recurring role on the television show Beverly Hills 90210 from 1997-1998 as Carly until she was fired, three weeks before she landed her role in Boys Don't Cry.

Married to Chad Lowe, brother of Rob Lowe.
