The Horribly Hilly Hundreds is a challenge ride in southern Wisconsin. Held in June, the ride features a 100 km and 200 km route. The organizers call it "The toughest one day Challenge Ride in the Midwest," which is supported by the 10,000+ feet of climbing on the long course. Over 700 riders attended the 2004 event, the majority favoring the long course.
History
The HHH was founded by Blue Mound State Park manager Karl Heil in 2003 based on a course called the Abomination by Greg Krystek. Karl enlisted the enthusiastic sponsorship of the Mount Horeb Area Chamber of Commerce and the support of several local cycling enthusiasts. The first annual ride featured a 66 and 119 mile route and was attended by about 400 riders. At the end of that year, a local newspaper labeled the ride "the sufferfest of the year."
