Horseshoe Bend is a city located in Arkansas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 2,278. Horseshoe Bend is located in Izard County.

Geography

Horseshoe Bend is located at 36°13'28" North, 91°44'40" West (36.224390, -91.744502)¹. Horseshoe Bend is located in Izard County.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 37.8 km² (14.6 mi²). 34.6 km² (13.4 mi²) of it is land and 3.2 km² (1.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 8.50% water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 2,278 people, 1,142 households, and 725 families residing in the city. The population density is 65.9/km² (170.6/mi²). There are 1,451 housing units at an average density of 42.0/km² (108.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 97.28% White, 0.22% Black or African American, 0.88% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.40% from other races, and 1.05% from two or more races. 1.23% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,142 households out of which 11.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.7% are married couples living together, 4.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.5% are non-families. 33.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 24.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.95 and the average family size is 2.42.

In the city the population is spread out with 12.8% under the age of 18, 3.4% from 18 to 24, 13.5% from 25 to 44, 24.6% from 45 to 64, and 45.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 63 years. For every 100 females there are 86.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 84.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $26,714, and the median income for a family is $34,129. Males have a median income of $24,286 versus $17,688 for females. The per capita income for the city is $18,987. 10.8% of the population and 6.9% of families are below the poverty line.
