Howth Head - Definition and Overview

Howth Head (Irish: Ceann Binn Éadair) is a headland in north County Dublin, Republic of Ireland, near the towns of Sutton and Portmarnock.

Actually a tombolo, it is connected to the mainland via a narrow strip of land. As Dublin City is largely crescent-shaped, Howth Head forms the northerly bound of the city with Bray Head to the south. As the DART terminus is in Howth, many Dubliners travel there on day-trips. Howth summit is popular with hikers where, on clear days, the Wicklow Mountains can be seen, with Dublin city below. There is also an ancient cairn at the summit.
