Huldra Huldra

Huldra - Definition and Overview

Huldra (the common Norwegian name) or Skogsrå (the common Swedish name) is a Scandinavian forest elf, or goddess if you will. She is stunningly beautiful and lures men who walk in the forest to have sex with her. If satisfied she can give the man a gift in return. However, the liaison can also result in madness. If seen from the back, she is hollow. In Norway, she has a cow's tail, and in Sweden she has a fox's tail.

A more positive side is that she could give good hunting, which may have been her original function.

She may be connected with the German Holda.
