Comedy: Writing and Performance
The Humber School of Comedy was founded in 1999, and is the first and only post-secondary degree program in comedy, in the English-speaking world.
Merv Griffin Productions is getting set to create a reality show based on the course. According to course founder Joe Kertes, "We're very excited. This is a huge opportunity for students. If they end up on an American national show, 10 or 12 could catapult to international stardom overnight, like American Idol finalists."
However, the show has been met with criticism. Maureen Wall, the faculty union president, told school newspaper Humber EtCetera that "I really think it could potentially be affecting the quality of education and what we're supposed to be all about here as a college."
This show is setting a precedent, by giving individuals in the series control over the footage used in the show's final edit. Generally the genre of reality is known for airing the most controversial or embarrassing footage available.

Humber Etcetera newspaper
Recent winner of the presitigious 2004 Apple Award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, Humber Etcetera is the College's school newspaper. As of 2004, the paper seems to take a more conservative stance on many issues.
The paper has a limited following at Lakeshore campus, with very few issues taken from any of the stands placed around the school. This possibly is influenced by the fact that the paper has little to no content in each issue about the southern location.
Miscellaneous
Humber has won the most Premier's Awards, since thiir inception. The award recognizes college graduates who achieve success in their field, and maintain a community presence. Humber's honourees include (course and graduation year in brackets) Gerry Lougheed (Funeral Services Education, 1977), Gwen Boniface (Law & Security Administration, 1977), Martin McNamara (Ambulance & Emergency Care, 1977), Michael Ruscigno (Electrical Control, 1974), and Anthony Longo (Business Administration, 1982).
Humber and its students are active the community, like most other institutions. In the 2005 CN Tower Stair Climb for the United Way, Humber was the Top Student Fundraising Team.
Canada's only Scouts Canada 22 Division Rover Crew was formed by some Humber College students in the Police Foundation course, in 2005.
