Humphrey de Bohun, 4th Earl of Hereford - Definition and Overview |
|
|
Humphrey de Bohun, 4th Earl of Hereford (1276 - March 16, 1322) was a member of an important Norman family of the Welsh Marches. He was born at Pleshey Castle located in Essex, England. The castle is nothing more than an earthwork ruin now.
He succeeded his father, Humphrey de Bohun, 3rd Earl of Hereford to the titles of Earl of Hereford and Baron de Bohun. At the battle of Bannockburn, he charged alone at Robert the Bruce, only to be felled and held for ransom for the Bruce's wife. Humphrey was killed at the Battle of Boroughbridge by a Welsh pikeman who'd hidden under the bridge itself.
He married Elizabeth, Princess of England, daughter of King Edward I of England, on November 14, 1302, at Westminster. She died shortly after giving birth to their daughter, Isabel. They had one other daughter, Margaret de Bohun.
Humphrey held the title of "Bearer of the Swan Badge".

Munchious: AB also claimed he'd been to parties with Humphrey Bogart. Unlikely as Bogart died 5 years before Beyond The Fringe went to New York. |
