Hung Hom (KCRC) - Definition and Overview

Hung Hom (紅磡車站, formerly "Kowloon Station:" 九龍車站) is a station on the Hong Kong KCRC's East Rail.

This station was opened in 1974 as the old Kowloon Station at Tsim Sha Tsui was too small, has no room for expansion and was therefore demolished in the same year. It served as the terminus of East Rail until 24 October 2004, when the East Tsim Sha Tsui station at TST East was opened. The expanded part of the concourse was opened in 2001, making it the largest KCR station, until Tsim Sha Tsui East station opened.

It now serves as the midway station of East Rail, as well as the terminus of Beijing-Kowloon Line ("Jingjiu Xian"), Shanghai-Kowloon Line ("Wujiu Xian"), Guangzhou-Kowloon Line and some other railways running between Hong Kong and Guangdong.

Before the relocation of Kowloon terminus from Tsim Sha Tsui to Hung Hom in 1974, a station named Hung Hom was located at Chatham Road South, next to the coast of Hung Hom Bay.
