Virginia
This highway is called the Chippenham/Pocahontas Parkway, which provides a useful bypass of the Richmond area.
A very familiar feature is the ultra-high bridge over the James River and the ramps from I-95 that rise accordingly to meet it. A $2 toll is charged for the bridge. When it was first opened, a rumor emerged that the bridge was haunted. This encouraged new users to pay the toll and listen for the ghost sounds themselves.
Maryland
The Harbor Tunnel Thruway is a bypass of Baltimore that features no exit ramps before paying at the tunnel's toll plaza (although there are two exceptions to this rule on the southbound side). That fact is shown by the warning "No Exit Before Toll." There is a spur to the south that provides a direct connection with I-97 for traffic going to Annapolis. The Harbor Tunnel, with two tubes, opened in 1957 as the first crossing under the Baltimore Harbor. When I-95 opened in 1985, with the completion of the four-tube Fort McHenry Tunnel, the thruway was assigned a new route: Interstate 895.
New York
The Sheridan Expressway is a connector between I-95 (the Cross-Bronx Expressway) and I-278 (the Bruckner Expressway) in the Bronx.
