ITU-R - Definition and Overview

The ITU Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R) is a standards body subcommittee of the International Telecommunication Union relating to radio communication. Their role is to regulate the allocation of radio frequencies and so reduce the interference between radio stations in various countries. They also have responsibility for regulating orbital positions of satellites relating to radio communications. In addition, they publish international engineering standard documents in their area of responsibility. The ITU-R was formerly known as the CCIR, or the International Radio Consultative Committee.
