The main stand of Ibrox Stadium
Ibrox Stadium, originally Ibrox Park, is the stadium of Rangers F.C. It is located on the south side of the River Clyde in the Ibrox district of Glasgow.
The site of Ibrox Park has been the home of Rangers since 1899. In 1929 the construction of the Main stand began, although the appearance of the stadium changed much in the 1980s and 90s when the Copland, Broomloan and Govan stands, along with the Club Deck of the Main Stand were constructed. The stadium currently has a capacity of 51,000, although plans are afoot to increase this figure to 64,000 by adding a further tier to the Govan stand.
The ground's name was officially changed to Ibrox Stadium after its most recent renovation, completed in 1997.
The stadium is one of only 20 European stadiums which have UEFA's 5-star rating, enabling it to host finals of UEFA club competitions.
66 people died at Ibrox on January 2 1971 when a crush occured during an Old Firm match, an incident known as the Ibrox disaster.
