Imsety Imsety

Imsety - Definition and Overview

In Egyptian mythology, Imset was a son of Horus and a funerary deity, one of the four brothers who were associated with the canopic jars (specifically: the one which contained the liver). Unlike his brothers, Imset was not associated with any animal and was always depicted as human.

<hiero>i-im:z-ti-i</hiero> is the transcription of Imset's name in Egyptian hieroglyphs. Technically, it is transliterated as ỉmstỉ. As there is little evidence of the correct pronunciation of Egyptian, especially of the vowels, the name can be realised as Imset(i), Amset(i), Mesti or Mesta.
