India.Arie (born India Arie Simpson on October 3, 1976 in Denver, Colorado) is a nu soul and R&B singer, songwriter, and guitarist.
Before moving to Atlanta, Georgia, Arie grew up in both Detroit, Michigan and Memphis, Tennessee, and is an alumnus of the Savannah College of Art and Design. Signed to the Motown label, Arie has had successful singles with "Video" and "Ready for Love" from the critically acclaimed Acoustic Soul album. Arie garnered seven Grammy Award nominations in 2001, and returned the next year with Voyage to India.
Arie's influences include Stevie Wonder and Donny Hathaway, and she has been noted for her strong soul music stylings in her music.
