Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (adventure game) - Definition

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is a graphical adventure game, originally released in 1989, published by Lucasfilm Games (now LucasArts). It was the third game to use the SCUMM engine. The plot closely follows, and expands upon, the film of the same name, on which it was based. One of the most innovative of the LucasArts adventures, it expanded on the traditional adventure game structure by including a flexible points system and allowing the game to be completed in several different ways. This countered one common criticism of adventures games - that since there is one completely fixed way to complete them, they have no replayability value. The game was originally released with EGA graphics; it was later updated with VGA graphics and re-released. The project was led by Noah Falstein, David Fox and Ron Gilbert.

The game's package offered a replica of the Grail Diary as in the movie. It was not faithful to the original but provided a wonderfuil background and also copy protection.

The game was realeased simultaneously with an Arcade remake based on the movie, also by Lucasfilm, but it didn't become that famous.

Also the game introduced the phrase "Hello, I'm selling these fine leather jackets." which became a running gag in future LucasArts games. The phrase is in reference to an in-house promotion that was going on durring the time of the game's production.

It was followed by a sequel, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, in 1992.
