Infoanarchism, also called information anarchy or the anti-copyright movement, is an umbrella term for various groups of people who are opposed to forms of so-called intellectual property, including copyright and patents.
Infoanarchists are a part of the broader copyright social conflict between content creators, or so called 'information monopolists', and individuals who wish the barriers on information, like copyright, to be relaxed.
Infoanarchist groups can include:
- People who think that copyright is an artifical barrier to the free flow of ideas and information which everyone has a right to.
- Warez groups
- Anarchists
Methods to encourage the free flow of information
Many infoanarchists use anonymous P2P networks, like Freenet or I2P, to give and receive information including copyrighted material. These anonymous networks make it difficult observers, including law enforcement authorities, to determine who is engaging in copyright infringement.
