Ingrid Daubechies (born August 17, 1954) is a Belgian physicist and mathematician.
She was born in Houthalen, Belgium. She studied physics at the Université Libre de Bruxelles and was graduated in 1975. She then decided to undertake a doctorate in that branch. She occupied the post of assistant researcher from 1975 to 1984. That year, she received the post of assistant professor at the same university. In 1987, she was enrolled at the AT&T Bell Laboratories in New Jersey. She married the same year and also made her major discovery: she constructed compactly supported continuous wavelets, which led to many important applications (see Daubechies wavelet).
Since 1993, Ingrid Daubechies has been a full professor at Princeton University.
