The inner transition elements comprise the elements of the f-block of the periodic table. This block is often drawn separated from the rest of the periodic table, and traditionally located immediately below it. There are two series of inner transition elements, the actinides and the lanthanides, each named after the beginning element of the row.
See also transition metals, which describes the d-block.
