Interscope Interscope

Interscope - Definition and Overview

Interscope Records is a record label currently owned by the Universal Music Group. It was started in 1990 by Jimmy Lovine and Ted Fields with financial support from Atlantic Records (who owned 50% of the label). In 1992 Jimmy Lovine helped Death Row Records financialy and with a distribution deal through Interscope. Under pressure from the American anti-rap movement, Atlantic sold it's stake in 1995. Interscope linked itself then with Universal. When Universal acquired Polygram in 1993, Interscope was merged with Geffen Records and A&M Records.
