Contents

Maine

Interstate 195 in Maine runs from the Maine Turnpike in Saco to Maine State Route 5 where it enters Old Orchard Beach. The road was built in the early 1980s to avoid congestion in downtown Saco from summer traffic to the beach.

Massachusetts and Rhode Island

The 40.1 mile long Interstate 195 in Massachusetts and Rhode Island travels from a junction with Interstate 495 in Wareham, Massachusetts to a junction with Interstate 95 in Providence, Rhode Island. It travels east-west and passes through the cities of New Bedford, Massachusetts and Fall River, Massachusetts.

New Jersey

The 34.17 mile (55.0 km) long Interstate 195 in New Jersey begins at Route 34 in Wall Township and ends at I-295 just south of Trenton, New Jersey. It is also known as the Central Jersey Expressway. Much of the traffic on the highway is due to its proximity to Six Flags Great Adventure amusement park. (I-195 does not end at the Garden State Parkway, but stops about 1/3 mile (1/2 km) short of it, due it being built to connect with Route 38 (now Route 138), which ended at Route 34.) Route 138 continues east to Belmar, New Jersey.

When it was built, it did not intersect its nominal parent at all, but was in fact a tertiary interstate. When I-95 was re-routed to the New Jersey Turnpike in 1980 as a result of the Somerset Freeway not being built, the Turnpike became I-195's proverbial parent; there is an intersection between I-195 and the Turnpike.

Maryland

The 4.88 mile long Interstate 195 in Maryland is a spur of Interstate 95 just south of Baltimore that travels from Interstate 95 to Baltimore-Washington International Airport.

Virginia

The 3.5 mile long Interstate 195 in Richmond, Virginia, also known as the Beltline Expressway, is a connector route from a junction with Interstate 95 and Interstate 64 to a junction with the Downtown Expressway.
