Interstate 210 - Definition and Overview

Interstate 210 (I-210) is an interstate highway spur route of Interstate 10 in Louisiana, United States and WAS a spur route of Interstate 10 in California, United States.

California

Interstate 210 is a 48.7 mile east-west interstate in the Greater Los Angeles metropolitan area of Southern California. Throughout its entire length it is named the Foothill Freeway. Although this is unusual because most freeways are named after a particular destination city such as Santa Monica, Pasadena, or San Bernardino, for example, it is appropriate as it 'follows' the base foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains and serves what could be generally regarded as the "Foothill communities" such as Pasadena, Claremont, Highland, Azusa, and so forth.

Its western terminus is at the junction with the Interstate 5 (I-5) at the northern edge of the San Fernando Valley, near the Sylmar district of Los Angeles and its eastern terminus is at the junction with the California State Highway 57 (CA/SR-57) in Glendora. The physical alignment of this freeway continues east of this junction; however, it is signed as California State Highway 210 (CA/SR-210). This segment was completed in September, 2003 and is not classified as an interstate (yet). It terminates in Fontana, California at the Sierra Avenue exit about 3 miles east of the junction with the Interstate 15 (I-15) . Additional construction is ongoing that that will connect this segment with an existing freeway segment about 10 miles to the east in Highland/San Bernardino (although there it is signed as California State Highway 30 (CA/SR-30).

As of 2004, I-210 (not including the planned extensions or the completed route of CA/SR-210) passes through the following cities:

Louisiana

Interstate 210 in Louisiana is a 12.4 mile bypass route in Lake Charles, in the southwestern part of the state. I-210 passes to the south of Lake Charles, connecting with Interstate 10 at both I-210's western terminus and its eastern terminus.
