Interstate 265 - Definition and Overview

Interstate 265, also called the Gene Snyder Freeway, is the Interstate highway ringing the Louisville, Kentucky metro area, which includes southern Indiana, although the Indiana and Kentucky segments remain separate at the present time. In Kentucky it runs from Brownsboro Road in northern Jefferson County to Dixie Highway in southwestern Jefferson County. In Indiana, it runs from I-64 in western Floyd County to I-65 in Clark County. It is currently being extended east to the Ohio River, where it will eventually cross a planned bridge across it and link up with its Kentucky counterpart, creating a bypass around the eastern side of the city. Though plans are not in the works as of yet, Interstate 265 may one day be completely looped via a bridge to the west of Louisville and an extention beyond the Indiana portion's current western terminus at I-64.
