There are several roads named Interstate 495 in the United States:
Delaware
I-495 bypasses Wilmington, Delaware to the south and east
Maine
- I-495 is now an unsigned designation for the short route connecting I-95 with I-295 north of Portland, Maine. In January 2004, the routes of I-495, I-95, and I-295 were changed. Previously, I-295 was an 11.02 mile (17.73km) long route through downtown Portland. I-95 was re-routed onto what was I-495 between the junction north of Portland and Gardiner while I-295 was extended to include what had been I-95.
Maryland-Virginia (Washington, DC)
I-495 in Maryland and Virginia is the Capital Beltway, which serves the Washington, DC area.
Massachusetts
New York
In New York, I-495 is the Long Island Expressway (LIE). This road runs 66.38 miles from New York City, New York the length of Long Island, Nassau and Suffolk counties, ending just before the "fish-tail" (where the island splits into northern and southern forks) at Riverhead, New York.
Smaller highways continue on from the end of the LIE to Greenport on the North Fork and past the Hamptons to Montauk on the South Fork. Cynics have suggested that the acronym is appropriate, in that the term "expressway" is a lie.
