Intoxication is an impaired mental and physical state caused by ingesting alcoholic beverages or other psychoactive drugs.

Sometimes, people in this impaired state act irresponsibly because of reduced inhibitions. The term intoxication is typically used in legal proceedings when some crime has been commited during a state of intoxication.
