Ipecac Ipecac

Ipecac - Definition and Overview

Syrup of ipecac (derived from the Ipecacuanha plant), is an emetic - used to induce vomiting. It is used in case of accidental poisoning, and is perhaps the most well known emetic.

Typical dosage for adults is one-two tablespoons (15-30ml) followed by two or three glasses of water. Vomiting is expected in under a half hour. Some recommend saving the vomitus for medical inspection.

Ipecac has been used by anorexic and bulimic individuals as a means to lose weight. Such use has sometimes resulted in death. Ipecac may also refer to the record label co-owned by Mike Patton.

Example Usage of Ipecac

Ivykite: like that episode of family guy where they drink the Ipecac
internetcasey: plans to make a Best of Hidden Tracks mix. Gotta put Jay-Z's "Unplugged", Atmosphere's "Seven's Travels" & P.O.S.'s "Ipecac Neat" on that
leahblizz: Forget Ipecac, whenever I need to blow chunks I'll just think of Harry Reid comparing HC to slavery. Disgusting. #redeye
