Ise (伊勢市; -shi), formerly called Ujiyamada, is a city located in Mie Prefecture, on the island of Honshu, Japan. Very popular among visitors for its traditional beauty, Ise is part of Ise-Shima National Park.
During the Edo period, Ise was a popular pilgrimage destination.
As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 98,819 and the density of 552.15 persons per km². The total area is 178.97 km².
The city was founded on September 1, 1906.
Ise is the site of the Ise Shrine, the most important Shinto shrine to the goddess Amaterasu.
