The Israeli rock scene began in the 1960s, when American and British bands like The Beatles became popular. A few Israeli artists, like Zvika Pik, Arik Einstein and Shalom Hanoch began experimenting with rock. The first major rock band from Israel was Kaveret, who sings in Hebrew.
In the early 70s, Israeli had a burgeoning progressive rock scene. One of the first performers was Shlomo Gronich, whose 1971 debut was Why Didn't You Tell Me?!. This was however, preceded by Danny Ben Israel Bullshit 3 1/4, which was released in 1970 and promptly forgotten about for some thirty years. Other 70s prog bands included The Churchills, Zingale, and Sheshet.
Current and recent rock bands include Ethnix, Mashina, HaYehudim, and Monica Sex.
