Issei Japanese - Definition and Overview

The Issei Japanese (一世 lit. first generation) are native Japanese who emigrated from Japan primarily to North America. Their children and grandchildren are known as Nisei Japanese and Sansei Japanese respectively. See also: Issei Japanese American
