Jack Brickhouse - Definition and Overview

Jack Brickhouse (January 24, 1916 - August 6, 1998) was an American sports broadcast announcer. Known primarily for broadcasting Chicago Cubs games, he won the Ford C. Frick Award for outstanding baseball broadcasting in 1983.

Born in Peoria, Illinois, he entered broadcasting at age 18 in 1934, and retired in 1981. Following brain surgery on March 3, 1998 to remove a tumor, he died in Chicago, Illinois from cardiac arrest at age 82.
