Kim Se Hwang (김세황, also known as James Kim) is a guitar player born on November 16, 1971 in Seoul, South Korea.
His mother, Kim Jungha, a classically trained guitarist, encouraged Kim's musical talents. In fourth grade, after watching a video of the Woodstock Festival, Kim was inspired to learn the guitar.
Kim's father, a diplomat, was stationed in the United States for much of Kim's youth. Kim lived in Washington D.C. from the age of four until age 16, when he moved back to Korea. Kim's liberal education received in the States meant a very tough time for him in adapting to the much stricter Korean schooling environment. Because of this, he was kicked out of several schools for fighting. He eventually graduated from Daewon High School in Seoul, South Korea.
Kim has played for Korean hard-rock heavyweights such as N.EX.T and Novasonic.
Along with his musical prowess, Kim himself is considered a diplomat in the Korean rock world. Because of his exceptional English and Korean, he often acts as an interpreter for Western musicians performing in Korea, such as friends Steve Vai and Joe Satriani.
