James Murdoch (born 1972) - Definition and Overview

James Murdoch (born 1972) is the CEO of British Sky Broadcasting and son of billionaire media tycoon Rupert Murdoch. He is also an executive vice-president of News Corporation and serves on the board of directors of News Digital Systems. He is married to Kathryn, with whom he has one child.

James Murdoch attended Horace Mann High School in New York City and graduated in 1991. He then studied at Harvard University, leaving in 1995.

In 1996 he joined News Corporation and, with Brian Brater and Jarret Meyer, set up Rawkus Records, an independent hip hop record label.

In May 2000 he was appointed chairman and chief executive of Star Television.

On 13 February 2003, he became a director of BSkyB. Later that year, he controversially became CEO of BSkyB, of which his father's News Corporation owned 38% at the time.
