James St Clair-Erskine, 2nd Earl of Rosslyn - Definition

James St Clair-Erskine, 2nd Earl of Rosslyn (17621837) was an English soldier and politician. James Erskine served in Portugal, Denmark and the Netherlands, and was promoted to general in 1814. From 1782 until 1805, when he became a peer, he was a member of parliament; a Tory politician and an associate of the Duke of Wellington, he was Lord Privy Seal (18291830) and later Lord President of the Council (18341835.
