Jenners - Definition and Overview |
|
|
Jenners Department Store, located near the Scott Monument on Princes Street in Edinburgh, is the world's oldest independent department store with a history dating back to 1838. It contains over 100 different departments selling a large variety of goods.
Dubbing itself the Harrods of Scotland, it gains a certain cachet from being a store that the Queen visited in 1988, and for this reason is the holder of a Royal Warrant.
'If you can't find it in Jenners, then it's not worth having...'
Jenners is now facing increased competition, from out of town retailers and the new Harvey Nichols in nearby St Andrew Square.
