Origin

Jesse or Yishai (Hebrew יִשַׁי / יֵשַׁי, Standard Hebrew Yíšay / Yéšay, Tiberian Hebrew Yíšay / Yēšay) is the father of the Biblical King David mentioned in the Books of Samuel of the Hebrew Bible. David is sometimes called simply "Son of Jesse" (ben yishai).
