Jim Davis (born October 11 1957), American politician, has been a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives since 1997, representing the 11th District of Florida. He was born in Tampa, Florida, graduated from Jesuit High School of Tampa, was educated at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia and at the University of Florida, and was a lawyer and a member of the Florida House of Representatives before entering the House. He was re-elected in 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2004, the last three times without Republican opposition. In the 2004 election, he was challenged by Libertarian candidate Bob Johnson, a computer programmer, and Socialist Workers Party candidate Karl Butts, a farmer. Davis won 85% of the vote, compared to 14% for Johnson and less than 1% for Butts.
Davis is considered a likely Democratic candidate for Governor of Florida in 2006, as his centrist positions are similar to successful Democratic candidates of the past, such as Lawton Chiles and Bob Graham. [1] (http://news.tbo.com/news/MGBKZTR3U1E.html)
