Jo Brand (born May 3, 1957) is a British comedienne.
Joanne Brand was born in Hastings, East Sussex. Her mother was a social worker, and Jo worked as a psychiatric nurse until the mid-1980s, when she began a career in stand-up comedy, under the soubriquet, "The Sea Monster". In 1993, she obtained her own series on Channel 4, Jo Brand Through the Cakehole.
She was for a while romatically involved with Malcolm Hardee.
She is a regular guest on such television shows as Have I Got News For You, Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, and QI. She has had several solo television series, and presented shows such as Jo Brand's Commercial Breakdown. She also appeared on StarSpell, a spin off from HardSpell, during 2004.
In 2003, she was listed in The Observer as one of the 50 funniest acts in British comedy.
She has also tried her hand at straight acting, and has written novels. She is married with two children.
