Joan Peters is an American historian and journalist and the author of From Time Immemorial, a controversial book Israeli-Palestinian conflict which argues that a majority of Arabs in the Palestine mandate were recent immigrants from surrounding countries. The book was widely acclaimed in the US but reviewed as "ludicrous and worthless" in the UK due to numerous errors in citation.
Norman Finkelstein, who first exposed the book's errors, comments that Peters "has not been seen or heard from in nearly a decade. Dispatched to Orwell's 'memory hole' her name is no longer mentionable in polite company. ... [though] she has -- in the words of Shakespeare's Othello -- 'done the state some service and they know't'."
